"Why It Took Me Forever to Start This Blog (Spoiler: Writing is Hard!)

Posted by Christine Himes on

Hello, World!

If you're reading this, you've just witnessed a miracle. No, I haven't discovered a secret continent or learned how to teleport (though that's on my bucket list). The miracle is this: I've started a blog. Yes, me – the person who would rather hike up an unknown mountain than write a grocery list.

So, why did it take me so long to start a blog? Simple. I don't particularly enjoy writing. There, I said it. Writing feels like trying to thread a needle while riding a rollercoaster—fun for some, nauseating for me.

But here's the thing: I love travel. I adore the rush of landing in a new place, the thrill of tasting a dish I can't pronounce, and the joy of getting lost in streets Google Maps hasn't even heard of. My daughter and I have been zipping around the globe, collecting stories like some people collect fridge magnets.

Friends and family have been bugging me for years: "Start a blog!" they said. "Share your adventures!" they encouraged. And each time, I'd laugh it off. Me, a blogger? That's like asking a fish to climb a tree.

However, I realized something important. My experiences, our adventures – they're worth sharing. Even if it means wrestling with words and trying not to sound like a malfunctioning GPS.

So, here I am, stepping out of my comfort zone (which, ironically, is a very comfortable hammock on a beach in Bali, I wish!). I'm here to share the good, the bad, and the funny of traveling the world, especially with my world-schooled daughter as my sidekick.

Expect stories of breathtaking views, bathroom mishaps, missed flights, and unexpected friendships. And through it all, I promise to keep it as light and fluffy as a French soufflé – hopefully, without collapsing!

Stay tuned, dear readers. It's going to be a bumpy, beautiful ride. And hey, if I can start a blog, maybe I can also learn to teleport. One miracle at a time, right?
